The Director, Digital Media plays a central role in the leadership and strategic direction for the paid digital media programs of CDR’s nonprofit clients, and oversees the media buying execution to acquire, cultivate, retain, and upgrade online donors. The ideal candidate will combine significant strategic planning, digital media management, analytic and account management experience, along with the ability to flourish in a fast-paced, creative environment with ever-shifting schedules and priorities.


  • Works with teams to establish the strategic roadmap for clients focused on an upgrade, test and refine methodology that spans all paid digital media initiatives.
  • Provides leadership for internal teams and external media agencies or partners in order to identify opportunities that lead to an effective or efficient outcome.
  • Leads digital media strategy through both hands-on management and management of digital media buyers, as necessary.
  • Works with analytics team to develop optimal reporting solution for paid digital media, including social, display, paid search and native.
  • Continuously researches and recommends new advertising venues, creative formats, and technologies, staying abreast of trends and recommending possible implementations for our clients.
  • Responsible for overall quality control of digital campaigns and assets, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of multichannel plans and reports.
  • Researches and negotiates terms with vendors; routing and finalizing contracts, as assigned.
  • Coordinates with leadership on managing of projects through the department, in order to provide timely responses to clients and client teams.
  • Contributes to the development of department processes, procedures, and standardization of work product.
  • Supports senior staff with other activities as assigned.


  • 10+ years of experience developing and managing digital media campaigns, including at least 5 years of experience leading digital media teams.
  • Wide and deep understanding of programmatic media, search and paid social landscape, with ability to recommend appropriate tactics within each to generate acquisition and revenue growth.
  • Nonprofit-specific experience preferred; experience generating new leads, customers, and revenue an absolute must.
  • Leadership and people management experience and proficiency; customer-service oriented attitude.
  • Proficiency with Google Analytics, Google AdWords, Bing Ads, Facebook, and programmatic display platforms preferred.
  • Experience with e-CRM platforms such as Blackbaud Convio/Luminate Online, Salsa, Classy, Engaging Networks highly preferred.  Some knowledge and experience with CMS a plus.
  • Ability to handle multiple complex projects; a resourceful self-starter who can take initiative and follow through on projects.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; degree in marketing or communications preferred but not required.
